Great little town with plenty of Onsen places to stay, a lot of little restaurants/cafes, we went early autumn just when the colors starting to come out.

初めて訪れたので、こういう所なのか？コロナのせいなのか？と言う事はありますが、活気が感じられませんでした。50m程の温泉街で「ここからは当館の敷地なので宿泊客以外は入るな」とか、散々並ばせて「４名以上はお断り」と言うそば屋とか、13時30分 前には殆んどの飲食店が店じまいするし、高速バスで１３時過ぎに到着した人達はチェックインまであの狭い一帯でどうやって時間を潰すのかなぁ・・・交通の便の悪さを補う場所と時間とサービスの工夫を温泉全体で考えたほうが良いと思います。京都の渡月橋は地元の団体がこの時期観光客より多い人手でごみ拾いをして、いつ戻るか分からないその日に備えていました。ここはゴミ箱を置かずに至る所に空き缶やゴミが散らかっていました。それぞれの旅館では色々工夫されているのでしょうが、街としてのまとまりが感じられず残念でした。

And this is also harassing… (^_^;)I want to revisit after the boys are a little bigger and I am young enough to enjoy the hot springs slowly.Oh, finally.The master is 185 cm. It was made to match the old Japanese as a whole, so I hit my head (laugh)

Great place to go if your want tranquility. Room in our hotel (I don't remember the name but there's only one modern onsen hotel there) is clean, modern and spaceous. Service is top notch. Nearest convenience store is 20min drive away so if you want a small rural town atmosphere this is the place to go.

You can also see the hot spring and the famous Sekizen-kan, which I have wanted to visit once since ancient times. The hot spring town had the old taste and it was fun to take a walk, and there were also shops where you can eat grilled buns and local beer. The 10% soba noodles I ate at the soba shop I dropped in was also deliciousI want to come see the snow scene next time

The atmosphere is like a hot spring town in the Showa era.The entrance to the parking lot was hard to understand and I wandered around.The one-day hot spring had a bad smell of disinfectant and looked like a pool.

I started to go every year.At Michi-no-Eki Ryozan Takeyama, having a soba for lunch and staying at Sekizenkan makes me feel like I've stopped working because of the hustle and bustle of everyday life and can do my best ❗I will also go there next year.

There is a retro hot spring town along the Shima River. This is a place where adults want to spend their time without worrying about time. It was a quiet hot spring resort where the sound of the river, the chirping of birds, and the voice of a loaf echoed. (I visited on weekdays.) For sightseeing, there are two dam lakes (Oku-Shimanko and Nakanojo Dam) along the Shima River, potholes, and several small waterfalls.

The spring quality is tasteless and odorless.Everybody loves Spirited Away building (1).There are several outdoor hot springs, but it's also a good idea to choose one for the hotel.Please note that the restaurant area will close immediately if you do not line up at the time of opening. If possible, eat at an inn. The name recognition is up to that point, but there is a lot of site area as a hot spring town. The river is beautiful and the scenery is good, so it's a hot spring town, but since there are few places to play, shopping facilities and restaurants, hot springs are visited by calm adults rather than coming to play.It takes less than an hour to get to the Shimankawa Dam, so I want a car or bicycle. If you are walking, you can take a break with footbaths and outdoor baths on the way, but considering the round trip, it is a hike rather than a walk. (Experience story)

Peaceful and quiet place. I stayed in one of the oldest hotel there and Grand Shima hotel. Both are good. You can drink the hotspring water. Good for digestion.

Although it is a very famous Sekizen inn, it is a good inn with a good old-fashioned taste. There is no doubt that the front of the old inn looks great on Instagram. Especially at night. The warm light is the best

If you liked the Ghibli film, Spirited Away, you should come to Shima Onsen. If you don’t mind roughing it, stay at Sekizenkan Ryokan, the oldest existing onsen hotel in Japan. We did and we loved it!
